What is equity for workers & why does it matter?

Being harassed or discriminated against shouldn’t upend your career – but for too many, that is often the case. #WEtoo is a movement of workers who are coming together to use our collective power to force employers to stop tolerating serial harassers, to stop covering up discrimination, and to make systemic changes that support (and not punish) those who step forward.

In academia, as in many fields, people get involved because they believe they can make a positive contribution and move society forward. Having your contribution devalued because of who you are can be an incredibly difficult experience. #WEtoo is an ally to those who have been affected by policies that fail to protect workers. Together, we share our victories (like fighting against a clear case of pregnancy discrimination at UCLA, and winning), our challenges, and exchange strategies to make our workplaces more equal.

“Because of the wide power differential between professors and students or postdocs, a robust and independent complaint process is essential.”
